I bought this to upgrade my computer from 2 GB to 4. It worked as expected. I use this computer with 64 bit Linux (primary OS) and Windows 7. No problems.
Please do research before you buy. Another users wrote a negative review of this product because he didn’t know that his motherboard was not compatible with DDR2 RAM. This is not PNY’s fault. The reason this is called “PNY Optima MD4096KD2-800 4GB 2x2GB Dual Channel Kit DDR2 800 MHz CL 5-5-5-15 PC2-6400 Desktop DIMM Memory Module” rather than simply “4GB (2x2GB) computer memory” is because only certain types of RAM will work with your motherboard. The important things to look at are the size, number of pins, MHz, and DDR. If you built your computer then this probably won’t be a problem, but if someone built it for you, or you are trying to build one now, take a look at the manual that came with your motherboard or the website of the manufacturer. They will tell you which type of RAM (DDR2, DDR3, etc), how many MHz, how many pins, and how much RAM your motherboard is capable of handling (mine is now maxed out at 4GB). If you bought an HP or Dell and are looking to increase RAM, visit their websites, look at your manual, or just type the name of the computer + memory upgrade into Google (example – “Dell Dimension 3000 Memory Upgrade”).
Another thing to consider when you upgrade is your power supply. If you put in your new RAM and the computer no longer starts (maybe the fan spins but nothing shows up on your screen), don’t assume new RAM broke your computer. You need a larger power supply. More RAM needs more power. When I upgraded I had to swap out my 350 watt power supply for a 400 watt. I’m about to add a video card and blue ray player so I ordered a 550 watt PSU along with them. For a decent inexpensive power supply, I like Diablotek.

I bought two memories (2x2GB). They come in one box. The product was received as it was advertised and I installed it right away without any problem. I have an Acer desktop and it recignized the upgrade and now I have 4GB and the system is much faster. I have them for two months and no problem. I got very cheap at Amazon where as they are above $100 at other retailers.

Value price, and the metal wrap makes careful installation easy. We bought enough to fully upgrade our whole office to capacity and it wasn’t terribly expensive.

The most bang for your buck when you need to improve performance, this 4GB RAM combination is just what you need to kick your gaming and multi-tasking into high gear. Easy to install, it slots into the motherboard easily and was detected by the BIOS immediately. Have not had a problem since. Plus it ships with Prime/Super Saver.
